FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a short haul move?
This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.

What is a local move?
This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.

What is an intrastate move?
This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.

Am I guaranteed that my online move estimate will be 100% accurate?
Additional moving costs may be required by any moving company so you may need to pay extra at the end of your move. However, the more details you provide beforehand, the more accurate your quote will be.

Can my moving company store my items temporarily?
Some moving companies will temporarily store your items in a safe storage facility. However, you have to pay for any warehouse valuation coverage, final delivery charges from the warehouse and any storage charges.

Will I have to pay for anything besides labor costs for my move?
Yes, you may have to pay for required packing supplies and for special care required to pack delicate or oversized items such as televisions or pianos. Make sure to discuss these fees with your moving company before your move.

How soon in advance do I have to book one of your movers or packers?
This depends on the availability. However, you should contact a moving company as early as possible once your moving date has been confirmed. The summer months are always much busier so you may require more notice.

What is a binding estimate?
This guarantees the exact cost of the move based on any services requested or deemed necessary at the time of the estimate. Additional services that are requested or required such as shuttle service, additional packing or adding items will be added to the cost of the estimate.

What is third party service?
This is a service contracted out to people other than the movers. It may include waterbed service, household cleaning or appliance servicing.

What should I do if one of my items is damaged during the move?
Professional movers and packers do their best to ensure all your belongings arrive safely to your destination. However, damage sometimes occurs. In this case, please email or call your moving company as soon as possible with the details.

Will my movers clean my home once my move is complete?
Most professional movers will clean up any mess they have made during the actual move. However, they don’t perform general house cleaning so you must hire a professional cleaning service or perform this task yourself.

Should I take an inventory of my items before moving?
Yes, we recommend that you complete a detailed inventory of all the items within your home before the actual move. If possible, take digital photos or a video of the contents in each room. Make sure to store the photos or video safely during your move, because they can be very helpful if you need to file an insurance claim.

Will my moving company get rid of any extra trash?
Yes, but they will charge you for any items they need to take to a waste disposal location, including the time required to drive to and from the area and the management fee required.
